Flower and garden show

Maggie

Last week I was lucky enough to win tickets to the Northwest Flower and Garden Show from Seattle Homes and Lifestyles Magazine. This is the second time I've won a giveaway on twitter! I was particularly excited about this win because I'd been hearing really exciting things about the show. I took my friend Laura with me on Saturday and we had a great time.

The show is held in the convention center and is six acres of indoor gardens and booths. Above you'll see one of the winning displays, inspired by a Roman temple. All the displays were HUGE!

This "garden" theme reminded me of our camping trip. Many of the displays had working fountains. This one's looked like a mountain stream.

My personal favorite display was a country garden theme. Here is a close up of one of the garden beds. Vintage windows on hinges served as a makeshift greenhouse and provided some protection from birds.

Another angle of the country garden. Yep, that is a chicken coop! Made me start dreaming of fresh eggs and happy clucks from the garden. That's not going to happen for us anytime soon (doubt our landlord would like it) but it was fun to dream!

The orchid booth had some gorgeous varieties of orchids, many of which I had never seen before. This plant was one of my favorites. There were also plant-sale booths that had many varieties for sale and Laura took home a beautiful purple orchid for her desk at work.

I was especially interested in these pretty-but-functional pots with herbs and veggies. This is something that I think Ryan and I could replicate this spring. Stay tuned for some gardening posts in the next few weeks as we learn to plant and grow!

Of course we won't be pulling off anything quite this complex! Yep, that's a car garden, folks!

The garden show was a lot of fun and we had a great time poking around the plant booths and getting inspiration from all of the amazing nurseries and landscape architects who presented their designs. What a great way to get in the mood for planning our new garden!
