Before and After : Shannon's Guest House

You guys have seen this design I did for Shannon's guest house a few times already (I just love the color scheme!)

Shannon had a pretty teensy budget (and a baby on the way!) so a lot of the pieces I recommended were for her to look for in places like Craigslist, ebay, and thrift stores. And thanks to some pieces she had around the house, she was able to make some tweaks that fit her budget (like using a pattern on throw pillows instead of the DIY headboard). Here is the room today:

I love how light and cozy it feels now. Remember the cold and stark room as it was before? Here's a reminder:

There is a big difference between "stark and starved" and "white with bright accents". The most powerful changes I think were creating a focal point above the bed - adding a real headboard and the photos above helps create more visual space up above, making the nook feel bigger. Adding the lighting by the bed, and folding the existing coverlet into an accent helped keep it light and airy. And the new pillows bring in the new color scheme.

In the desk area, the darker blinds help bring attention to the window but will block out more light at night for sleeping. And they tie in some of the darker pieces, like the dresser and folded coverlet. I love her addition of the director's chair - it cost her only $15 at Lowes! In total, the whole makeover ran her JUST over $300! Wow.

It looks GORGEOUS, Shannon! Thanks for sharing! Readers, check out more pictures on Shannon's blog.
