Believe it or not, this cool-hued room started with the simple skirted Parson's chairs. Chairs like these are so versatile that you could really take them in any direction. Fancy or casual, feminine elegance or rustic glam, they mix and match like the best of them. I loved them with this modern but simple table, then looked for a warm buffet to keep the room from being washed out. Of course we needed a chandelier and I like mixing the modern elements with a true antique. Bold and flashy lamps keep it from being too sweet. The blue on the walls (and in my imagination, the moldings too) add a grounding sense of the traditional. Once I found the painting, I knew we had to have black silk drapes. And that, my friends, is how a gorgeous dining room is made.
