Art(space) of the month: Speck Gallery

I missed a couple months of our Artist of the Month series, so I'm making up for it today with several artists - the fabulous collection at Seattle's tiny Speck Gallery in Belltown.

I had the opportunity to tour the gallery with owner Alex Landes a few weeks ago. Alex chooses each piece according to her (fantastic) personal taste. Though the gallery itself is no bigger than a stairwell, she lines the walls with an amazing assortment of affordable pieces - the artwork ranges from about $500 to $1500 - still a splurge, but one that the average professional couple can afford to make.

(My favorite pieces are below - I want the one of the man sitting at the desk).

I also got a peek at Alex's loft apartment, which was ridiculously cool. Some of the artwork there (like the pharmaceutical piece) is also for sale.

If you're in (or visiting) Seattle, Speck Gallery is open only by appointment. Let me know if you want to accompany me sometime, or follow the gallery's facebook page to get in touch with Alex directly.

Happy art shopping!

P.S. Since it's the first Thursday of the month, museums in Seattle are free (and have discounted rates on special exhibits). Don't miss it!
